Review: Blood Bonds by Kerry A. Campbell

Blood BondsLily Myers is living an ordinary life until she meets Quinn Carter. When Quinn turns out to be a century-old vampire, Lily is thrust into a reality where she’s an unwilling believer. But as her fear fades and her curiosity wins out, she finds herself falling for Quinn and learning more about this new world. From hunting down a vampire killer to meeting werewolves, Lily’s life has definitely taken a turn…but whether it’s for the worse or better, she’s still finding out.

A Paranormal Romance for Vampire Lovers

Lily is a lab tech with insomnia. Because of her late night walks in the town that she knows so well, she finds herself intertwined in the dark, hidden world of vampires and werewolves.

After she meets the mysterious, drop dead gorgeous Quinn in a dark alley, her life is changed forever. And, after a series of unusual events, Lily finds herself bonded to him for life.

The characters are awesome and relatable–people that you might meet any day on the street. Dimitri is all about appearances and wears nothing but the best designer clothing; Eric is a laid back, beer slugging, always hungry alpha werewolf.

Blood Bonds is Kerry’s first solo novel. Her writing style mixes the darkness of blood and vampires with a touch of light-heartedness and a twist of sarcasm on the side.

I’ve posted some excerpts from Blood Bonds in my Friday post. If you’d like to have a read, check it out here.

A POPULAR BOOK OR BOOK SERIES THAT YOU DIDN’T LIKE:

I’ve heard so many people saying how much they enjoyed these books, and how they such a ‘feel good’ series that I had to check it out for myself  🙂

I was at the bookstore and flipped through some of the stories and I knew, right then and there, I would leave my credit card in my purse. Nope.  Not for me!  Just too much over the top sappiness.

A POPULAR BOOK OR BOOK SERIES THAT EVERYONE ELSE SEEMS TO HATE BUT YOU LOVE:

I’ve heard rumblings that Dan Brown is an awful writer, that it’s just really, really bad writing, it’s predictable and overrated.

I loved this book, though! I loved the whole secret Illuminati thing…so mysterious!  What if!

I loved Robert Langdon’s character, and I liked Tom Hanks portrayal of him in the movie, too!  I know he wasn’t a popular pick, but I totally enjoyed it.

AN OTP (ONE TRUE PAIRING) THAT YOU DON’T LIKE:

I’m sure we thought these two were gone forever, but I brought them back for the purpose of this post.  Sorry if I ruined anyone’s breakfast!

Honestly, I’ve heard the books were good, though I’ve never read them myself.  I couldn’t get through the movies.  Sorry.  Just couldn’t.

A POPULAR BOOK GENRE THAT YOU HARDLY REACH FOR:

Fabio has amazing hair and a great body but I need more than that in a novel.  Romance just doesn’t cut it for me.  Sorry! The love at first sight or the love triangle can be so cliche.  Or the, I-don’t-like-you-but-there’s-somethig-about-you.

A POPULAR/BELOVED CHARACTER THAT YOU DO NOT LIKE:

The Cat in the Hat.  I feel like I’m going to get in trouble for this one!

I know it’s only a cartoon, but he makes such a mess… The mom in me was freaking out 😉

A POPULAR AUTHOR THAT YOU CAN’T SEEM TO GET INTO:

Nora Roberts.  I know she’s written tons of books and is incredibly popular.

I tried to like her books, really I did!  but I guess it’s that romance thing.

A POPULAR BOOK TROPE (OVERUSED PLOT DEVICE) THAT YOU’RE TIRED OF SEEING:

The post apocalyptic trope.  Don’t get me wrong, I loved the Hunger Games and Divergent but I’m good for now on those themes, thank you very much!

A POPULAR SERIES THAT YOU HAVE NO INTEREST IN READING:

Nope.  No interest.  None.

Just  isn’t my thing.

THE SAYING GOES “THE BOOK IS ALWAYS BETTER THAN THE MOVIE”, BUT WHAT MOVIE OR TV SHOW ADAPTATION DO YOU PREFER MORE THAN THE BOOK?:

I mean, the book was great and all, but so long!  The movie was long too, but awesome 🙂
