Daily Walk

Daily Walk
Daily Walk

I’ve been walking everyday, and taking pictures everyday!  I share them here:

June 19, June 20, June 21,

 June 22, June 23, June 24

The  Daily Walk is a little peek into my daily life, something different to get a glimpse in to the life of the person behind the blog.

I’d like to invite anybody who takes photos to put your link in the comment of my Daily Walk, that way we can visit other blogs and have a glimpse into their life, too!

Feel free to use my button!

What I’m Reading Now

I’ve picked up a new ARC by Hal Archer.  His newest book in the Jake Mudd series to be released June 27th called Forced Vengeance.

Here’s the Goodreads blurb:

Jake’s days of operating under the radar are over. Old enemies are now intent on making his living as much a struggle for survival as for credits.

To secure a new black market license, he travels the backwaters of the galaxy to a sprawling cesspool in space, a city of dead ends and lost hopes.

Staying alive becomes a full-time job, and Jake is blindsided when he’s framed for murders he didn’t commit.

Proving his innocence and surviving become one and the same as he is forced into trial by combat against some of the worst criminals the galaxy has to offer.

But he’s facing more than the fight for his life, when he learns his enemies are targeting Sarah. Time is running out for Jake to save himself, clear his name, and reunite with his beloved ship before she’s taken for good.

He didn’t want to play dirty, but they left him no choice.

Off the Blog

Thank you to all the new followers here on my blog!  Welcome and I hope you enjoy my posts. I follow back and look forward to your posts as well!

My youngest son received Gold honours at his awards ceremony this week!  I’m so proud of him!

I’ve signed up for Camp Nano!  I’ve done Nanowrimo in November for the past three years but this is the first time committing to writing in July.

Camp NaNoWriMo is a virtual writer’s retreat, designed for maximum flexibility and creativity. We have Camp sessions in both April and July, and we welcome word-count goals between 30 and 1,000,000. In addition, writers can tackle any project they’d like, including new novel drafts, revision, poetry, scripts, and short stories.

So, my plan is to revise a novel that I’ve finished the first draft.  I’m committing to 30 hours.  Thats an hour a day, should be doable!  Hopefully I will get a lot more than that accomplished!

Do you enjoy writing?  Will you be participating in Camp Nano this July?  It’s not too late to sign up!

Thanks for dropping by 🙂

Sunshine Blogger Award!

Thank you so much to Roda at Growing Self   and Jay at This is My Truth Now for nominating me for the Sunshine Blogger Award!

These are two wonderful and fun bloggers that I follow and communicate regularly with.

Roda’s beautiful blog is a very peaceful place that always makes me smile.  She has beautiful photos and stories about her amazing garden, goats, chickens and family and farm life.  She has delicious, healthy recipes, too.

Jay is a kind-hearted, funny, self exploring and thought provoking book-worm as well as being an amazing writer!

If you haven’t had a look at these two blogs, I highly recommend you do so!

What is the Sunshine Blogger Award?

The Sunshine Blogger Award is given to those who are creative, positive and inspiring, while spreading sunshine to the blogging community.

How Does It Work:

  • Thank the person(s) who nominated you in a blog post and link back to their blog
  •  Answer the 11 questions sent by the person who nominated you
  •  Nominate 11 new blogs to receive the award and write them 11 new questions
  • List the rules and display the Sunshine Blogger Award logo on your post and/or on your blog

Jay’s Questions:

  • What hour are you most alert during the day or night? Late morning, around 11:00ish and again, late at night. After 10:00pm, I’m just getting going!
  • Who was the last famous person you stalked? I stalked? LOL  I guess the closest that would fit into that category was President Obama.  We were looking through the fence at the White House and the guards all shooed the crowd away.  So I snapped a bunch of pictures before we left.  When we zoomed in, we could just barely make out the Obamas on the terrace.
  • What courses were your worst and best in school?  Best: Chemistry, Biology and Art. Worst: English!
  • If you could let someone else takeover your blog for 1 day, who would it be? (can be a celebrity or even someone who doesn’t blog currently) Roda at Growing Self.  She has gorgeous pictures.  I love pictures!  She writes such lovely posts, too.
  • What country has the happiest people? I’ve heard  Norway and Denmark
  • What lesson took you the most to learn? Being okay with myself.
  • Where do you go for peace and quiet? Walking in the woods.  Or on my back deck.  It’s not quiet all the time but no one can see me!
  • What person who died before 1900 would you try to bring back to live today? King Arthur
  • Where do you see yourself retiring?  Glastonbury, England
  • What cartoon character are you most like? Velma on Scooby Doo.  “My glasses…I can’t see without my glasses!”
  • What personality trait are you currently trying to change or improve?  I am a procrastinator and an avoider.  I have timers going off on my phone constantly.  Time to start dinner.  Time to get ready for bed.  Time to go to bed.

Roda’s Questions:

  1. Use one word to describe yourself.  Easygoing.
  2. What is your favorite season? Why? Autumn.  There’s a sense of quiet peacefulness to Autumn.  Especially in the woods.  The sun is low in the sky, and the leaves are golds and reds.  Lovely.
  3. Are you a city mouse or a country mouse?  I live in the city, but I’m a country mouse at heart!
  4. What is your superpower? Making lists.  To-do lists, grocery lists, menus.
  5. Why do you write? I’ve always had a ‘what-if’ scenario going around in my head.  I’m a daydreamer, and I love books and reading, so I thought…why not harness this?!  Create something!
  6. What is your favorite book? Oh, gosh! How to narrow that down!  Anything by Diana Gabaldon, George RR Martin, Harry Potter series.  Is that cheating if I name more than one?
  7. What brings you JOY? My family!  My two boys, my husband, my dog and my cat ❤
  8. What is your favorite fruit? Honeycrisp apples are so yummy and sweet!
  9. Who is your role model? Why? JK Rowling.  I admire her writing of course, but also the way she worked so hard to overcome adversity and become the person she is today.
  10. If you could visit any place in the world, where would you go? I’d go back to Glastonbury, England.  Or maybe a beach in southern France, especially if its wintertime.
  11. What do you love most about YOU? I’m growing as a person.  I’m honest and  kind to others.

Okay, here’s my questions for my nominees!

  1. What is your ideal vacation?
  2. What do you love about yourself?
  3. What do wish you could change about yourself?
  4. What book are you reading now?
  5. What keeps you blogging?
  6. You are having a relaxing evening.  What are you doing?
  7. Do you have pets?
  8. Favourite pizza toppings?
  9. Coffee, tea or wine or other?
  10. What is your favourite season?
  11. What is your favourite book genre?

The Ducks were safe! Daily Walk June 24

After the craziness of seeing a man let his dogs chase these poor ducks around, I was relieved to see that the mom and her babies were all accounted for and seemed no worse for wear.

Aren’t they adorable?

Have a wonderful weekend, wherever you are and thank you for stopping by on the Daily Walk.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child: Book Beginnings and Friday 56

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

Another Friday is here!  Bring on the Weekend!

Book Beginnings on Fridays

Book Beginnings on Fridays is a meme hosted at Rose City Reader where you share the first sentence (or so) of the book you are reading, along with your initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires. Please remember to include the title of the book and the author’s name.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

I haven’t read this one yet, it’s on my TBR list.  My son received it as a gift for Christmas, but he’s at that age where he just doesn’t have time for reading.  He’d rather work on computer programming!  Maybe he’ll take up reading again over the summer.

Until then, for those Potterheads  like me out there who haven’t had a chance to read this one yet, here’s the Book Beginnings:

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

Kings Cross

A Busy and crowded station.  Full of people trying to go somewhere.  Amongst the hustle and bustle, two large cages rattle on top of two laden trolleys.  They’re being pushed by two boys, JAMES POTTER and ALBUS POTTER, their mother, GINNY, follows after.  A thirty-seven-year-old man, HARRY, has his daughter, LILY, on his shoulders.

Albus: Dad.  He keeps saying it.

Harry: James, give it a rest.

James: I only said he might be Slytherin.  And he might so…(Off his dad’s glare.)  Fine.

Albus (looking up at his mum): You’ll write me, won’t you?

The Friday 56

The Friday 56 is a meme hosted at Freda’s voice.

*Grab a book, any book.
*Turn to page 56 or 56% in your eReader
(If you have to improvise, that’s ok.)
*Find any sentence, (or few, just don’t spoil it)
*Post it.
*Add your (url) post below in Linky. Add the post url, not your blog url.
*It’s that simple.

Here’s a blurb from page 56:

The trolley witch’s hands transform into spikes.  She smiles.

So please retake your seat for the remainder of the journey.

Albus: You were right, Scorpius.  The train is magical.

Scorpius:  At this precise moment in time, I take no pleasure in being right.

Albus:  But I was also right–about the viaduct–that’s water down there, time to try the cushioning charm.

Scorpius: Albus, this is a bad idea.

Albus: Is it? (He has a moment’s hesitation, then realizes time for hesitation has passed.)  Too late now.  Three.  Two. One. Molliare!

He incants as he jumps.

Scorpius: Albus…Albus…

What do you think?  How do you feel about reading a book in script format?  Do you wish J.K.Rowling wrote this as a novel?

Daily Walk: Ducks and Stupid People

Daily Walk
Daily Walk
Daily Walk

My day started out, well okay. I woke with a wicked headache, I was slow and stiff.  Mentally, just trying to keep myself afloat.  I forced myself to get going though, knowing that I always feel better after my walk.

We showed up at the dog park.  I didn’t need my sweater.  It was warm and the breeze was perfect.  Awesome.  Feeling better already. We made our way across the field and stopped at the crest overlooking the water.

Dog Park
The view from the crest of the hill overlooking the water.

There was a man  standing at the water’s edge watching some ducks.  There was frantic quacking, clearly the ducks were freaking out.  It was a mother with her ducklings.  I walked closer, puzzled.  I couldn’t figure out why the duck was so upset.

There was something in the water, trailing after her.  At first it didn’t make sense.  Was something stuck on the duck?  A net?

Then, I realized.  It was a dog.

I approached the man, he had  a huge grin on his face but I could not, for the life of me, understand what he said over the sound of the agitated duck. He was pointing at Burger and then at the ducks. What?!

Is that your dog out there?” I asked.

“Yeah, ” he said, laughing.  Laughing.  “One time he was out there for three hours chasin’ em’.”

Oh. My. God.

“The duck is in distress.  He’s scaring the mother and her babies!”

Mother duck and her ducklings
Mother duck and her babies from another, more peaceful day,

“Oh, he’ll never catch them.  They’re too fast.  The mother is just scooting her babies along.  That’s why she does that.”

Really. That’s why she does that.  Could it be that she’s doing everything she possibly can to save  her babies?  I tried to convince him to call his dog in, but he was having too much fun.

Disgusted, and realizing that this man had the mentality of a lawnmower and I was not going to change his way thinking, I left and continued with Burger  on our walk, sending a silent wish that the duck would whack the dog in the nose with her bill or at the very least, get to the other pond where it was safer for her and her babies.    Or another duck would poop on the man’s head.  Either/or.

We hit the path, but honestly I was in no mood for taking pictures today.  Sorry. These are some shots from yesterday’s.

Dog Party

Do you remember that Dr Seuss book Go Dog Go?

I loved reading that to my kids when they were younger and they loved it too.

When we were at the dog park today, I couldn’t help thinking of that book.

It’s a Dog Party!  A Big Dog Party!

Across the field and down the path, we checked on the waterlilies. Just about ready to flower.

Not much colour in the garden below but lots of rich greens.  There are three different types of Hosta, Jacob’s Tears and Yew.
